What is Pupillary Distance?

Pupillary distance (PD) Its the measurement of the distance between the centers of your pupils and always measured in millimetres. This measurement is used to determine where you look through the lens of your glasses. On average adult’s PD is between 55-75 mm. The average PD for women currently sits at 62mm and the average for men is 64mm and so this is why our default PD is averaged at 63mm for everyone.

Normally one of the optical assistance in the opticians will usually measure your PD after your eye examination when choosing your glasses. You can always ask your Optometrist to measure this at the end of the sights test.

However, if for any reason it was not given to you, then do not worry, we are here to help you measure it yourself its simple!

How can I measure my Pupillary Distance?

Below we have 6 super easy steps which will help you measure your PD. You will need a willing helper, and a ruler with millimetres, if you do not have one we have it covered. Just click the link and print this one off to use. (PD ruler link)

Grab a helper, this can be a friend or a family member
Ask you're helper to hold the ruler against your brow.
You keep both eyes open and focus on their nose at all times
Your help will need close there Right eye to align the ruler’s 0 mm to your right eye (place the 0mm where the white part of the eye meets the coloured part (iris) ).
Once your helper is happy that the 0mm is aligned up correctly, Then they should open there RE and close their LE to get the final measurement.
The final measurement will be where the white part of the eye meets the coloured part (iris) of your LE, this measurement is your PD
